The Federal Reserve Bank of New York announced that Richard Ostrander has been named general counsel and head of the Legal Group effective next month.
Ostrander, who will also be a member of the bank’s Executive Committee, is currently a managing director in Legal & Compliance at BlackRock. He is an active leader in the Legal & Compliance function’s DEI initiatives.
Prior to joining BlackRock in 2011, Ostrander was a managing director responsible for global legal coverage of Morgan Stanley’s Fixed Income Division.
“Rick has deep expertise in the legal and compliance issues facing financial institutions and markets today, which will help us lead and prepare for the digital innovation of tomorrow,” said John C. Williams, president and CEO of the New York Fed. “His commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion practices across teams and his ability to collaborate inclusively with business areas on complex legal challenges will make him a great addition to our leadership team.”
Under Armour
The athletic performance apparel maker announced it has promoted Mehri Shadman to chief legal officer and corporate secretary effective October 24.
Shadman has spent nine years at Under Armour, most recently serving as deputy general counsel for Corporate and Risk, as well as assistant corporate secretary.
Shadman began her career as an associate at Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson in its capital markets practice.
Kellogg
The food manufacturing company announced that it has named Norma Barnes-Euresti as chief legal officer of North America Cereal Co., which is spinning off from its main business.
Barnes-Euresti is a 23-year veteran of Kellogg and most recently has served as vice president and chief counsel, Employment, Ethics & Compliance. She manages all Kellogg business units in the areas of labor and employment.
Barnes-Euresti is also an American Bar Association Fellow, and serves on the board of directors for the National Judicial College and the LGBT Bar Association.
New York Life Insurance
The country’s largest mutual life insurance company announced the promotion of Michael McDonnell to general counsel, effective October 4.
Since 2021, McDonnell had held the position of senior vice president, deputy general counsel & chief insurance counsel, providing legal guidance across New York Life’s Foundational and Strategic Insurance Businesses.
McDonnell, who joined New York Life in 2013 as an associate general counsel, began serving as a VP and associate GC in 2016.
“During his time with the company, he has become an indispensable counselor and has earned the confidence and respect of senior leadership across the business, the entire legal team, and his peers in the industry,” said Sheila Davidson, executive vice president and chief legal and administrative officer. “New York Life will continue to benefit from his sound judgment, expertise, and commitment to serving the company.”
Highline Technologies
The payments fintech announced it has named Jesse Silverman its general counsel and chief compliance officer.
Silverman brings almost 20 years of legal expertise and industry experience to Highline, including leading legal and compliance efforts for several fintechs, including LendUp, Nuula, and Steady.
He also served as an enforcement attorney for the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).
